AhlulBayt News Agency: Israeli forces have arrested Nasser al-Lahham, director of Lebanese news network Al Mayadeen’s office in the occupied West Bank.
The news outlet reported the arrest on Monday, saying that al-Lahham was detained in a pre-dawn raid on his home in Beit Lahm, southern West Bank, that day.
Israeli soldiers conducted deliberate acts of vandalism after they stormed al-Lahham’s residence, smashing furniture and confiscating personal mobile phones belonging to him and his family, Al Mayadeen said, citing local sources
The arrest sparked widespread condemnation from Palestinian political and media groups.
Munther al-Hayek, spokesperson for the Fatah Movement, told Al Mayadeen that al-Lahham’s arrest was aimed at suppressing the press and intimidating journalists.
“What Israel is doing in the Palestinian territories is happening with a green light from the United States,” Al-Hayek further said, adding that the free press’s coverage of Israeli massacres in Gaza has unsettled the regime, which has resorted to repressive and terror tactics.
Back in October 2023 and following the start of the Israeli war on Gaza, the regime’s forces raided al-Lahham’s home, assaulting his wife and children, and detaining his two sons.
Israel has also killed at least 228 journalists in Gaza since the start of the war there on October 7, 2023, in what is seen as an effort to silence any voice raised on the regime’s atrocities against the Palestinian people.
